Member application readiness
Apply with the right information, not unnecessary stress
A plain-English checklist for Mob before applying. It explains what helps reviewers, what stays private and what you do not need to provide.
No paperwork? You can still apply.
FirstCard supports three respectful pathways. You only need one, and self-declaration is valid when formal paperwork is not available.
Confirmation letter
A letter from a Land Council, Aboriginal corporation or Indigenous community-controlled organisation if you already have one.
Usually fastest, but not required.
Community reference
An Elder, Land Council representative, leader or recognised mob member who can vouch for your connection.
FirstCard may briefly contact them.
Self-declaration
Your own words about community, country, family connection and what you know so far.
Lack of paperwork is not a barrier.
What to have ready
- Your name and best email
- Phone number if you want follow-up by phone
- Community, country, region or family connection details you are comfortable sharing
- One eligibility pathway: letter, reference or self-declaration
- A few minutes in a private place if writing personal details
Privacy reminders
- FirstCard is free to apply for and free to use.
- No payment details, checkout, credit check or BNPL are part of applying.
- Eligibility details are treated as sensitive information.
- Partners do not receive eligibility documents or your application story.
- FirstCard is not a government ID or replacement for formal Confirmation of Aboriginality.
Ready when you are
If you have one pathway and your contact details ready, you can apply. If you are unsure what to write, use plain words about your connection β the review is meant to be respectful, not interrogating.
